Many things we are yet to quite grasp as children of God. As believers and potential believers, we are yet to grasp the depth of truth, spoken of in Scriptures. The best we do is scratch the surface of it and because He is a merciful God He manifests His blessings in our life’s as though we had gained mastery of situations or subjects of concern like a pro.
The Lord gave us His wisdom in 2Corinthians 6:14, according to KJV it says:
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:
For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?
and what communion hath light with darkness?
We must understand that though His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts than our thoughts, he does not intend for it to stay that way. The overwhelming love God has for us desires that we should be like Him, know everything that He knows, access all that He accesses and command all that he commands. God never intended that we should be deficient of wisdom, for He hid this wisdom from the devil and not from us. The wisdom of God is hid for us 1Cor2:7 and accessible by us, His children. Thus, He intends that as we reach every cross road, we should turn to Him for His wisdom and He would graciously give it to us. What happens most of the times is that, rather than go to Him, we turn to our knowledge, friends and the world for solutions Prov. 3:5-8, Jer. 17:5. God never intended that we should be deficient of wisdom, for He hid this wisdom from the devil and not from us. The wisdom of God is hid for us and accessible by us, His children.
When the Lord says do not be unequally yoked, a lot of things come to mind. We would be examining the various aspects of being unequally yoked, what it means and does not mean and gaining deeper revelation to what the Lord is saying to us and the church in this season.
1. A Believer and an Unbeliever- in the same scripture quoted above, verse 15 goes further to ask, what relationship does belial (an unbeliever, one ruled by satan) have with Christ (a Christian, one who Jesus is His/Her Lord). Understand that scripture was not segregating rather, scripture was revealing a truth. Have you ever asked yourself that same question when it comes to your unbeieving friends. What relationship do we have here? Is it a relationship of impact or that of influence? If it is that of influence, who is influencing who? Are you being influenced negatively against God’s will and wisdom? or are you Influencing them in the light of God’s word. To tell you the truth, a person who you can’t influence positively within the space of 3months (maximum) should be left alone, else you would be the one influenced. Why? You may ask, this is because iron sharpens iron, and just as a still water in which you see your face in it, face answers to face Prov. 27:17-19. Communication is powerful, it is not just a person talking to another it is about a deposition of seed and part of oneself to another person, remember the words of Ezekiel in Ezekiel 2:2 “the Spirit entered into me, when He spoke to me and set me upon my feet”. Have you ever wondered why you speak to a person especially a friend and some things they say keep replaying in your mind. Those words will never leave you, they just stick to you like glue and in situations where you are pressed hard on every side you go to them for advise and at that time, you are very open. Even if they are not there you remember what they have said or will say about that situation. When God speaks to us He deposits His power and ability in us to carry out whatsoever He desires that we should do. This was what Ezekiel was talking about I Ezekiel 2 and we know that God created man in his own image, after His likeness, thus we know that just as He is and just as he operates, so has He given to man do be and to do also.
